Press Release
Rob Oliphant Awarded 2009 Parliamentary Intern
For Immediate Release
October 16, 2009
OTTAWA– Rob Oliphant is pleased to welcome Allison O’Beirne as his Parliamentary Intern for the Fall Session of Parliament. Rob is honoured to be one of the three Liberal Members of Parliament chosen to host an Intern. Interns are selected through a rigorous national competition and then they choose Members of Parliament to work and learn with. They participate in a year-long academic seminar and have comparative study tours to legislatures in Canada and abroad. Over the past 40 years, they have contributed greatly to the quality of work on Parliament Hill and have gone on to outstanding careers in the public and private sectors.
Allison is from Halifax, Nova Scotia and has just completed her Bachelor of Arts with first class honours in Political Science and English at the University of King’s College. She focused on Canadian politics and wrote her honours thesis on the history and implications of Canada’s current constitutional amendment formula. She has been an executive member of her school’s debate society and worked as a parliamentary tour guide over the past three summers. She is bilingual.
While in our office, she will support Rob in his work as a Member of the Public Safety and National Security Committee, the Veterans’ Affairs Committee (of which he is Vice-Chair and the Liberal Party Critic), the All Party Arts Caucus and other parliamentary associations of which he is a member. As well, she will work on Private Member’s Bills, and the on-going work of the Member’s Ottawa office.
